Mayflower has strong connections with Boston in Lincolnshire, not only because it was a frequent visitor, but also because the name plate hung in the Guildhall Museum in Boston where the Pilgrim Fathers were imprisoned when they tried to sail from Boston before the eventually traveled to Plymouth to make the historic voyage to the USA on board the ship Mayflower. The Boston United Football team is also known as "The Pilgrims"
